Automation & Controls Manager | High-Tech Manufacturing

Location: Hasselt, Belgium Schedule: On-site, Monday-Friday, full-time A cutting-edge manufacturer is looking for a Freelance Automation & Controls Manager to take ownership of their electronic maintenance and automation systems. This role will be responsible for keeping production running smoothly while leading a skilled team and driving technology upgrades across the plant. Your Mission: Organize and oversee automation and electronic maintenance activities, including shift coordination Guarantee the reliability and performance of PLC-driven systems, robotics, and machine controls Manage budgets, workforce planning, and professional development for your team Ensure compliance with strict safety, quality, and environmental frameworks (ISO, GMP, ESG) Lead site audits, conduct risk assessments, and implement corrective actions Identify and deliver cost efficiency measures while supporting future investment projects Work closely with production and engineering teams to roll out Lean/TPM practices and digital transformation projects Your Background: Degree in Automation, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related technical field 5+ years' experience managing automation or electronic maintenance in a production environment Strong leadership skills with proven success in team coordination and process optimization Hands-on knowledge of PLC Siemens platforms and maintenance software (ERP/SAP experience a plus) Analytical mindset combined with excellent communication skills Fluent in Dutch and English, both spoken and written EU citizenship/work rights required This is a great opportunity to lead automation excellence at a forward-looking production site and contribute to continuous innovation.
